BUIES CREEK — Campbell yielded a four run ninth-inning to visiting North Carolina in a 7-3 baseball defeat Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
There were 1,403 on hand, the fourth largest crowd at Jim Perry Stadium.
The No. 22 Camels (8-4) grabbed an early lead on a first inning solo home run from Lawson Harrill, his fourth ofnbthe season.
The No. 16 Tar Heels (11-2) scored three in the fifth as Vance Honeycutt singled through the left side to score Jackson Van De Brake and Casey Cook doubled to center field to score Alex Madera and Honeycutt.
Grant Knipp started the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Payton Howard laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Knipp to second. Knipp went to third on a ground out and scored on an infield single from Dalen Thompson.
Campbell tied the score at 3 in the seventh. Knipp doubled and went to third on Howard’s sacrifice bunt. Harill’s sacrifice fly scored Knipp.
The Camels made a play at the plate in the eighth to preserve the tie and escaped a bases-loaded threat.
The visitors loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth and scored four runs.
The Camels start a weekend series at home against Bucknell on Friday at 6 p.m.
