Cape Fear Christian Academy took an 18-3 Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity baseball loss to visiting Northwood Temple on Tuesday afternoon.
“Much better effort today, although definitely not the outcome we wanted,” said CFCA coach Marty Priebe in comparison to a loss on Monday.
Wesley Jackson allowed three runs over the first three innings for CFCA with only one that was earned. He yielded four hits and struck out six with one walk.
The visitors scored eight runs in the fourth. Reid Miller came in to get the last two outs in the fourth.
NTA added seven runs in the fifth, although only three were earned due to a pair of costly errors.
Jaden Crumley was 2-for-3 for CFCA. An outstanding defensive play in the first prevented him from going 3-for-3. Miller and Trevor McLamb were each 1-for-2. Wyatt Medlin had a hit in CFCA’s 3-run fourth.
Miller started the bottom of the fourth with a single to center. McLamb singled to left center. Medlin’s 2-out single to right loaded the bases before a single to left center by Crumley cut the lead to 11-2. A walk to Zeke Brock loaded the bases and Wesley Jackson drew a walk to force home CFCA’s third run. A.J. McGarvey flied out to center to end the inning.
“Everyone was putting the bat on the ball,” Priebe said. “We left 10 runners on base. We left the bases loaded twice. Overall, we played better. Hopefully, this game will help us moving forward.”
