The second-seeded Overhills varsity boys basketball team got 24 points from Zavian McLean, 19 from Cinque Lemon and 11 from Latrell Lloyd in a 72-64 win over visiting South View in the quarterfinals of the Patriot Athletic 4-A/3-A Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.
The Jaguars (20-5) face E.E. Smith (6-17) in the semifinals at No. 1 seed Terry Sanford on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Overhills and the Bulldogs (19-5) shared the league’s regular-season championship. Host Terry Sanford plays fourth-seeded Pine Forest in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The sixth-seeded Golden Bulls topped third-seeded Westover, 58-56, in overtime in the first game at Overhills on Tuesday night.
“A lot of credit goes to South View,” said Jaguars coach Tony Lewis, whose team had topped the Tigers by scores of 69-42 at home on Jan. 31 and 71-30 on the road Feb. 6. “We had way too many turnovers. It’s hard to beat a team three times.
“We came out a little lax and it was a dogfight. They got every 50-50 ball.
“It’s the time of the year when you want to be fine-tuned and ready to go into the playoffs. We were far from being fine-tuned. Again, give South View a lot of credit. Their kids showed a lot of guts.”
