Paige Jeffries, a senior at Cape Fear Christian Academy, signed to play softball at Mars Hill on Friday at a ceremony in the CFCA gym.
Jeffries was named to the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A All-State team as a sophomore and a junior.
She helped the Eagles win the NCISAA 1-A championship in 2019.
“Paige has one speed and that’s full speed,” said CFCA coach Sterling Holmes.
An outfielder, Jeffries hit .368 with 16 runs batted in as a junior. She had 11 doubles and one home run. She drew 13 walks in 20 games.
Jeffries hit .471 as a sophomore with 20 RBIs. She had five doubles, four triples and two home runs in 2018.
“I’ve seen her develop for four years and Mars Hill is getting a steal,” said Adam Renzi, coach of Jeffries’ Challengers travel team.
Among those speaking at the signing ceremony were CFCA athletic director Al Myatt, headmaster Karen Parker, upper school principal Michael Breslin and math teacher Lolita Tripp.
The consensus of the remarks was that Jeffries is a quiet but hard-working young lady on the field and in the classroom.
