Pairings set for SAC tournaments

Pairings have been set for the Sandhills Athletic Conference basketball tournaments.

The Cape Fear Christian Academy junior varsity boys are the No. 4 seed in the league event and will visit top-seeded Freedom Christian on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

The junior Eagles went 5-5 in regular-season league play with a 73-64 win at Freedom on Jan. 10 as Deshawn Woods scored 31 points and Zeke Brock added 27. Brock had 32 points in a 63-55 home loss to Freedom (7-3 SAC) as CFCA got off to a slow start on Jan. 28.

The CFCA varsities are each seeded fifth in the SAC tournaments and will visit fourth-seeded Nothwood Temple on Tuesday. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

NTA has won a pair of competitive games with the CFCA girls, 64-55 at CFCA on Dec. 13 and 54-43 at NTA on Jan. 17.

The CFCA varsity boys topped NTA, 77-72, on Dec. 13 as Paul Tako had 24 points and eight rebounds. Jamael Carter, Jeremyah McWilliams and Greg Moneymaker had 14 points each in the first meeting. Austin Locklear had 11 points.

Tako hit eight of nine field goal attempts and Carter had eight assists.

NTA won, 64-57, at home on Jan. 17 despite 19 points by Carter.

The varsity semifinals are Thursday at Freedom Christian. The CFCA-NTA girls winner will play regular-season champion Trinity Christian at 3 p.m. and the CFCA-NTA boys winner meets Trinity Christian, the top seed, at 4:30 p.m.

The championships are Friday at Freedom with the girls at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m.
