Cape Fear Christian Academy held its annual ‘Pink-Out’ in volleyball on Tuesday in conjunction with Mid-Carolina Conference matches with Lee Christian.
The host Eagles were victorious in middle school and junior varsity matches and even managed to take a set off the varsity Falcons, the top-ranked team in the NCISAA 1-A class, according to MaxPreps.
The biggest triumph was in the spirit of giving, which was prevalent as roughly $6K was raised for the battle against cancer. About half the total went to the family of Lee Christian sophomore player Carlie Anne Nicholson, who has been diagnosed with leukemia.
The remainder goes to the Friends Fighting Cancer group of Dunn.
The CFCA middle school team improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the MCC with a 2-0 dub by set scores of 25-9 and 25-4. The Eagles have wrapped up the conference regular season championship on the middle school level.
The Eagles JV took a competitive 2-0 win (27-25, 25-23) for its 10th straight triumph and are MCC regular season champions.
Lee (18-1) took the varsity contest by set scores of 25-10, 16-25, 25-22, 25-14.
Junior middle hitter Elayna McFarland of the Falcons bought a ticket in the 50/50 raffle and won $220.
