Western’s Prince is king of 3-A throws

GREENSBORO — Asher Prince of Western Harnett won the boys shot put and discus in the NCHSAA 3-A track and field meet at N.C. A&T’s Belk Track in Greensboro on Sunday.

Prince had a heave of 53 feet, 9.25 inches in the shot put and an effort of 175-7 in the discus. He has signed with Charlotte.

Josh Polk of Hobbton also was a double winner in the NCHSAA 1-A meet which was held in conjunction with the 3-A state competition. Polk added to his championship laurels with a first in the 100 meter in 10.92 seconds and he also won the 200 in 21.94.

Lakelyn Bass of Hobbton won the 1-A girls pole vault as she cleared 11 feet. Bass added a pair of fourth-place finishes in the long jump (16-8) and the triple jump (34-6).

N.C. State signee Laderique McNeill of Harnett Central won the 3-A boys 1,600 in 4:14.14. McNeill was third in the 3,200 in 9:24.10.

Isai’as Robinson of Overhills was third in the 4-A 100 meter on Friday in 10.88 seconds. Robinson was fourth in the 200 in 22.16.

Central’s Maliah Banks was eighth in the 3-A girls 100 in 12.51.
