Radford starts fast, tops CU

RADFORD, VA. – Radford opened the game on a 25-4 run and went on to defeat Campbell 72-53 Thursday night in a men’s basketball game at the Dedmon Center, which was televised on ESPNU.

Radford (16-12, 9-6) ended a three-game losing streak and took over possession of third place in the Big South Conference standings with three games remaining in the regular season. Campbell (14-13, 8-7) saw its two-game win streak halted and dropped into a fourth-place tie with Liberty (17-11, 8-7), which knocked off league-leader UNC Asheville 82-69 in overtime Thursday night.

Carlik Jones led Radford 17 points, while Travis Fields, Jr. (13) and Devonnte Holland (12) came off the bench to hit double figures. Caleb Tanner added nine points for Radford, which shot 57 percent in the second half (12-21) and finished the game with a 39-24 edge on the boards.

Chris Clemons led Campbell with 20 points and extended his Division I-leading double figure scoring streak to 75 games. Cory Gensler added nine for the Camels, who shot just 37 percent from the floor and made 5-of-20 threes.
