Raiders claim gold in Goldsboro

Midway’s varsity baseball team took the East Central 2-A Conference championship on Thursday night with a 16-9 win at Goldsboro.

The Raiders also wrapped up a league title in softball with a 13-4 win at Goldsboro, improving to 16-5 overall and 11-1 in conference play to finish one game ahead of East Duplin (10-2).

Midway had a 2-1 girls soccer win in a varsity sweep.

In baseball, the Raiders (16-5) jumped out to a 12-0 lead and withstood a seven-run third inning by the Cougars (9-12).

Cameron Calcutt was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI as Midway outhit their hosts, 14-7. Chandler Williford had two hits and three RBIs. Colby Pope had two doubles and two RBIs. Jaron Register and Austin Peterson each had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.

Carson Calcutt had two hits and an RBI for the Raiders. Cameron Barefoot went 3-for-4 and scored three times with two stolen bases. Brayden Coats had two hits and scored twice. Cal Tyndall was hit by pitches three times, drew a walk and scored three runs.

Carson Calcutt pitched two and one-third innings. Cal Tyndall threw four innings and Eli Culbreth tossed two-thirds of a frame, The trio recorded nine strikeouts.

Midway was 10-2 in conference play, finishing one game ahead of Spring Creek (9-3).
