Midway hosted seven-on-seven football scrimmages with Triton, Lakewood and North Lenoir on Thursday morning.

“We’re about two months into installing new offense and new defense,” said new Raiders coach Cory Barnes. “We competed. We showed some progress. You see some good things. Then you see some bad things.

“Ultimately, you want to see your kids compete and we competed with everybody we played. We figured out some kids who want to get out there and play some football.”

Barnes, who was offensive coordinator at North Johnston before coming to Midway, has added Brad Hardison to the Raiders staff as offensive line coach. Barnes anticipates adding more assistants.

“I have one, maybe two more spots to fill,” he said.
