Raiders roll past Hobbton in Barrett Sloan’s return

Ke’Mari McNeil makes a return for Midway in a 34-0 win over Hobbton.

Barrett Sloan made a successful return to Midway on Friday night as the first-year coach of the Raiders with a 34-0 win over visiting rival Hobbton at Tommy Sloan Stadium, which is named for his father.

The younger Sloan played quarterback for his dad at Midway before enrolling at East Carolina. Barrett Sloan came to Midway after a coaching stint at Lakewood.

Tanner Williams completed 15 of 23 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Ke’Mari McNeil had four catches for 46 yards with a score. Gehemiah Blue had three receptions for 40 yards and a TD. Nathue Myles had two catches for 38 yards and a score.

Blue had 15 carries for 94 yards and had a rushing TD.

The Raiders had 168 yards rushing in an evenly-balanced attack.

“I thought we showed we could play at all three phases of the game,” said Barrett Sloan. “But we also have to get better at all three phases.

“I was very happy for Coach (Jonathan) Hall (defensive coordinator) and the defensive staff. Those guys came to play.”

Wyatt Scott was in on 11 tackles for Midway. McNeil and Wilson Mayo each had interceptions. Thomas Perez blocked a punt and Andrew Graham returned it for a touchdown.

Luke McCray kicked four extra points.

Daniel Aguilar had 70 yards rushing for the Wildcats. Joe Corbett completed 14 of 25 for 88 yards. Reggie Thompson had 45 yards receiving.

Hobbton hosts Trask on Friday night and Midway will be at home to take on James Kenan.
