Carson Calcutt and Carsse Lucas each figured in a pair of touchdowns for Midway on Friday night in a 25-18 season-opening win at Union.

Lucas had a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Raiders a 6-0 lead. Lucas also hauled in a scoring toss from Calcutt that covered 72 yards to give Midway a 13-12 with 4:24 left in the third quarter.

Calcutt ran for a 7-yard TD and a 19-12 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Deantae Byrd went 30 yards to the end zone to give Midway a 25-18 lead with 1:08 to go.

The Raider defense stopped Union’s last drive deep in Midway territory as time ran out.

Cory Barnes credited the defense as he recorded his first win as a varsity head coach. Barnes felt the offense would progress from the opening victory.

Byrd had 133 yards rushing on 14 carries and Calcutt threw for 101 yards.
