Senior softball standout Rhyleigh Horne of Cape Fear Christian Academy was taped for WRAL’s prestigious Extra Effort Award on Wednesday afternoon.

Horne has played on NCISAA 1-A championship teams at CFCA in 2019 and 2022.

She has signed to play softball at Meredith. She has pitched and played shortstop for the Eagles.

Horne hit .312 for the Eagles in 2023. She had a 1.82 earned run average in the circle with 60 strikeouts in 34 and two-thirds innings.

Horne made the NCISAA 1-A volleyball all-state team this past fall.

She is the daughter of Greg and Connie Horne of Angier.

Eagles coach Sterling Holmes has been involved in her training since she was 10 years old.

Horne was named Co-Female Athlete of the Year at CFCA on Thursday night.

A WRAL spokesman said the presentation of the Extra Effort Award will be shown in the next one to three weeks.
