Rocky Mount event short and sweet for Eagles with win over Wilson Christian

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity baseball team took part in the Patriot Invitational at Faith Christian in Rocky Mount on Friday with a 6-5 win over Wilson Christian.

No games were played in the event on Saturday due to the weather.

The Eagles (2-1) took a 6-1 lead with a 5-run third inning.

Zeke Brock drew a walk in the top of the first, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Fisher Stancil. Cole Godwin’s RBI single gave CFCA a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles put together the decisive third with seven hits, including a 2-run single by Taylor Smith.

Eli Burns got the win. He allowed five hits and five runs, four of which were earned, in three and one-third innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Stancil came on for the save with five strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.

CFCA had 12 hits. Godwin, Burns and Stancil had two hits each. Godwin and Smith each had two RBIs. Conner Parrish, Brock, Smith, Landon McLamb, Chris Crume and Jakson Cullen each had one hit.

The Eagles turned a double play.

CFCA hosts Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
