Scorecard error costly for defending state champ

by | May 9, 2023 | Midway

Midway senior golf standout Logan Atkins will be signing with Fayetteville State.

Logan Atkins will not be able to defend the NCHSAA 2-A individual championship he won as a junior for Midway in 2022.

Atkins had an error on his scorecard in the Mideast regional at Lake Royale on Monday and was disqualified.

After signing for a 75, officials determined that Atkins had made a mistake and that his actual score was 76.

The Raiders had two golfers qualify for the state tournament as individuals, Jack Hazelbeck and Justin Marley.

Atkins is planning to sign to play golf at Fayetteville State on Thursday, May 18.

Former Raider Caden Hodges won the CIAA individual championship at Fayetteville State this spring and led the Broncos to the league team title as well. FSU is playing in an NCAA regional in Pennsylvania this week.
