Visiting Scotland County took an 8-1 softball win at South Johnston on Thursday night to close out the best of three series for the NCHSAA 3-A East region championship.

The Fighting Scots scored a run in the top of the first and held the lead the rest of the way in improving to 29-1 going into the state championship series against Rockingham County (26-1). Both state finalists are No. 2 seeds.

Scotland won the opening game of the series, 7-2, on Tuesday night to end a 23-game winning streak for the Trojans that dated back to an 8-6 season opening loss at Corinth Holders on February 28.

The Trojans finished a 56=0 run in the Quad County 3-A Conference with a 5-4 win over West Johnston at home on May 1 on a walk-off homer by Virginia Commonwealth volleyball signee Lannah Price. South will be in the Carolina Pines 6-A Conference next school year.

South’s 2025 playoff push included wins over East Wake (11-0), West Carteret (1-0, 8 innings), Richlands (5-0, 8 innings) and Southern Nash (5-0).
