A seven-run sixth inning sent Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team to an 11-4 win over visiting Fayetteville Christian in the semifinals of the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday.
The Eagles honored seniors Mariah Bell, Kim Bordeaux, Trinity Olive and Claire Parker before the game.
Weather delayed the start of the game about 45 minutes and the contest was called in the seventh inning due to lightning.
Parker was 3-for-3 at the plate. In the circle, she allowed two hits in four innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
Kristina Kennedy and Cailee Ray each had two hits and three RBIs as CFCA improved to 14-4. Rhyleigh Horne had two hits and two RBIs.
Bell had two hits and scored twice. Bordeaux, who has signed with Methodist, had one hit, one RBI, two runs and stole two bases. Bordeaux yielded one hit in two innings pitched with one walk and three strikeouts.
Kailynn Cumbie and Olive each had RBIs for the Eagles. Averi Williams and Megan Harrold each had hits.
CFCA and Freedom Christian tied for the regular season championship. Freedom won a coin flip for top seeding in the league tournament.
