Harnett Central picked up its much-needed first Tri-County Six 3-A Conference varsity boys soccer win Thursday in decisive fashion, routing visiting county rival Western Harnett, 9-0.

“The boys came in with the right mindset,” said Harnett Central coach Nick Brommer. “We came in with the right attitude and took care of business. It definitely feels good. I know the boys are happy. It’s really good at this point getting guys back and healthy and ready for the second half of conference.”

Senior Zach Sippel powered the Trojans (2-7-2, 1-4 TCC) with four goals.

“He was super hungry,” Brommer said. “I could tell before the game. I’m happy for him to get the goals and hopefully carry on into the second half of conference.”

Brandon Cervantes had one goal and three assists. Jonathan Coello had one goal and two assists. Angel Ramirez had one goal and one assist. Luis Silva and Liam Peebles had one goal apiece.

Central kept relentless pressure on the Eagles (0-8, 0-5) offensively, finally breaking through with a Sippel goal with 28:44 left in the first half on an assist from Coello.

Sippel’s second goal came with 18:50 remaining in the first half, assisted by Cervantes. Less than one minute later, Ramirez scored on a Coello assist with 18:17 left.

Sippel scored his hat trick goal two minutes later and added a fourth with 13:52 left, both assisted by Cervantes.

With 11:22 left, a diving header from Silva on a cross from Ramirez found its mark for another goal.

With 9:39 left, after a save on a Central corner kick, Peebles buried the rebound in the back of the net.

Cervantes scored his goal with 4:36 remaining and Coello added one more just over one minute later.

The match was called at halftime on the nine-goal mercy rule.

Harnett Central and Western Harnett will meet again Monday at Western Harnett before Western hosts Triton (4-7-2, 2-3) and Central travels to conference leader Southern Lee (8-3, 4-0) on Wednesday.

“We’ve just got to keep working hard, keep moving the ball,” Brommer said. “We’ve got to come in with the right mindset every game. If we do, we’ll be competitive in every game that we play.”
