South Johnston’s varsity baseball team defeated visiting Smithfield-Selma 7-3 on Friday night to improve to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the Greater Neuse 3-A Conference.
Getting two hits each for the Trojans were David Honeycutt, Jacob Norris and Aubrey Pollard.
Josh Parker got the win with three scoreless innings of relief.
South beat SSS, 12-0, on Tuesday and Raleigh HomeSchool, 20-3, on Wednesday before topping the Spartans for the second time.
It was big to finish a three-game week with the third win,” said Trojans coach Aaron Parnell. “We didn’t play as well defensively as we have throughout the year, but made some big plays to get out of trouble when we needed them.
“We have two big weeks ahead. For 28 innings we are going to have to bring good South Johnston baseball and control our own destiny.”
The Trojans were scheduled to host East Wake tonight (Tuesday, April 24), but that game will be rescheduled. South athletic director Brody Massengill hoped to host the Warriors on Wednesday, pending the availability of umpires and the condition of Bruce Coats Field.
