Mark Whitman, assistant athletic director and softball coach at Triton, sent a text Tuesday morning that the Hawks’ home baseball game with South Johnston had been called off following recent rain.
Whitman’s text said a decision on Triton’s home softball game with South would be made by 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Whitman subsequently sent a text that water was off at the school and the softball game would not be played.
Harnett County schools directed early dismissal for Triton and nearby Gentry Primary School, precluding a home game Tuesday evening for the Hawks in girls soccer as well.
Harnett Regional Water has been working on the system in the Erwin area for the past two days.
Triton baseball coach Joey Miriello said there was standing water on his field.
“I haven’t been able to cut it in about two weeks,” Miriello said. “I don’t know if we can get it ready for Thursday.”
Triton (2-0) is scheduled to host Village Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m.
