South Johnston defeated host Triton 2-1 in a nonconference varsity boys soccer match on Wednesday evening as Bryan Martinez had both goals for the Trojans.
All of the scoring was in the first half.
“We started soft and missed opportunities in the second half,” said Hawks coach Brian Foster.
Gage Smith had Triton’s goal, his fourth of the season in the Hawks’ 0-4-2 start, with Bert Strickland assisting to trim the lead to its final proportions.
“We let them back in the game,” said South coach David Diviak after his club improved to 4-2.
Kaven Barco was in goal for the Trojans, who host Triton tonight at 6:30 in a makeup game.
The Hawks won Wednesday’s junior varsity game, 6-0.
