Cape Fear Christian Academy absorbed its first loss of the season, 7-6, in eight innings in a game hosted by High Point Christian at Wallburg Baptist Church in Winston-Salem on Thursday.
The Cougars (13-4) are ranked No. 6 in the state among public and private schools by MaxPreps. CFCA (9-1) is ranked No. 1 among NCISAA 1-A teams. High Point Christian has won the last three NCISAA 3-A championships.
Hailey Dupree hit her first home run for the Eagles. Larah Tripp and pitcher Glenna McLamb, a Gardner-Webb signee, also homered for CFCA.
The Eagles enter the state playoffs next week. The brackets will be announced Sunday.
CFCA finished with a 9-7 lead in hits on Thursday and led, 6-3, after scoring four runs in the sixth.
McLamb and Tripp each had two hits for the Eagles. Also getting hits for the visitors were Lily Dunn, Finley Phillips, Sailor Phillips and Kristina Kennedy, who has committed to George Mason.
Kennedy was walked and hit by a pitch. She scored two runs.
Hailey Allred had three hits for the hosts with a run and an RBI.
