
Softball players from Triton have received assorted honors after the Hawks went 18-7 overall in 2018 and 7-3 in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference.
Freshman Kaila Cooney was the league’s Player of the Year and also was selected to all-district and all-state teams after hitting .500. She had 14 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
Senior Hayden Smith made all-conference, all-district and all-state after hitting .403 with six doubles and 15 RBIs.
Brittany Ireland had a .463 batting average during her sophomore season with six doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBIs. She was all-conference, all-district and all-state.
Kathryn Elliott hit .371 with eight doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs as a senior en route to second team all-conference, all-district and all-state honors. She has signed a golf scholarship with South Carolina-Upstate.
Freshman Gracyn Slaughter contributed as a pitcher and at the plate. In the circle, she compiled a 7-3 record with a 2.31 earned run average. She hit .326 with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 13 RBIs. She received all-conference and all-district recognition.
Alexis Howard hit .410 with seven doubles, one triple, five home runs and 17 RBIs as a junior on the way to second team all-conference and all-district honors.
Haley Hicks hit .385 as a senior with six doubles and 12 RBIs in earning second team all-conference and all-district recognition.
Hicks and Smith have signed with Fayetteville Tech.
Leanna Whaley of the Hawks signed with Appalachian State before an injury-plagued senior season in which she had a 1.83 ERA.
