South Granville seniors Austin Ferguson and Tyhagee Allen rushed for touchdowns as the host Vikings took a 14-7 nonconference football win over South Johnston on Friday night.
All of the game’s scoring took place in the first half as defenses dominated after intermission.
Heze Bailey scored on a 5-yard run as the Trojans tied the score at 7.
South Johnston appeared to score a second time late in the game on a long pass from Josh Schindler to Jawuan Smith but officials ruled that Schindler was beyond the line of scrimmage.
“Our kids battled to the end,” said South Johnston coach Matt Riggsbee.
South Johnston fell to 1-1 while South Granville improved to 2-0.
South Granville went 13-1 in 2017 with a 21-7 win at South Johnston.
