South Johnston’s varsity boys basketball team was at full strength in decisive wins over C. B. Aycock and James Kenan at Princeton on Thursday night.
Jacob Thornton had been playing in Europe with a national team.
“He was back so we had everybody,” said South coach Brody Massengill. “We had our big three players in Jaquain (Smith), J-Bird (Thornton) and C.J. (Ray). That was the first time the whole summer we’ve had them all together. You could definitely tell it.
“We’ve played 12 games in about two-and-a-half weeks. It’s been very good for us. We put guys in situations where they learned a lot. We faced some good teams. Last night, we just shot it well. They all shot it well. We ran good offense.
“We’re getting there on the defensive end. It always helps when a lot of people are putting it in the hole.”
