Retiring athletic director Al Myatt threw a ceremonial first pitch as Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted Lee Christian in varsity baseball on Tuesday.
Sophomore right-hander Fisher Stancil threw the next 73 pitches for the Eagles, allowing no hits and recording all 15 outs on strikeouts in a 10-0 Mid-Carolina Conference win in five innings.
The Falcons had two baserunners on a walk and an error.
“Fisher was dominant,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish after the Eagles improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Eagles took the lead in the first inning after Tyson Stephens walked and stole second. Conner Parrish delivered an RBI single into center field and stole second before scoring on a liner to left by Eli Burns.
Stephens had a 2-run single in a 3-run second.
CFCA closed out the contest on the run role when Steven Hicks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth,
Burns finished with two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Stephens scored twice and had two walks with three steals.
The Eagles drew seven walks and had 15 stolen bases.
Parrish had a walk, scored twice and had three steals. Stancil had one hit, one RBI, two runs and two steals.
Mason Gregory, Parker Mclamb and Landon McLamb had hits. Parker McLamb had two stolen bases.
Myatt and wife, Barbara, were recognized prior to the contest with a plaque of appreciation and a gift bag that included an autographed baseball from the team. Mrs. Myatt is retiring after 49 years in teaching.
The Eagles visit Crossroads for a middle school/varsity doubleheader on Monday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Middle School
CFCA overcame an early 2-0 deficit as Talton Herring provided the lead with a 3-double in the third.
Reid Jones pitched three innings of relief without allowing a run. He had six strikeouts.
The Eagles had six stolen bases.
CFCA plays at Halifax on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
