Cape Fear Christian Academy presented rings in chapel Wednesday to its girls golf and girls tennis teams, which won the titles in the same week on October of 2024.

The tennis team had finished runner-up twice in Rocky Mount in 2022 and 2023 before breaking through.

The Eagles will lose top singles player Karson Hamilton to graduation, but Coach Page Jackson noted that the program will regain starter Courtney Butts, who missed this past season with a knee injury.

Hamilton, Ella Butts and Savannah Autry made all-state in 2024.

Girls golf became a state contender as Carolina Wynns gained her eligibility as a seventh grader. She earned all-state honors in the NCISAA Division II Tournament at Keith Hills, which included 1-A, 2-A and 3-A schools.

Annabelle Scott and Susie Min also contributed scores in the state tournament.

In addition to winning the school’s first girls golf state championship, Braxton Wynns has been named the sport’s Coach of the Year by HighSchoolOT for all North Carolina public and private schools.

Headmaster Johnna Skatell, counselor Ashlyn Thompson and Booster Club president Casey Ellis were involved in getting the rings.

Athletic director Al Myatt noted that the Eagles are in contention for the NCISAA 1-A Wells Fargo Cup as a result of the championships.

Mrs. Ellis recognized the teams and athletes involved in the spring sports playoffs. Dr. Ron Barefoot gave the closing prayer.
