CHAPEL HILL — Although neither team is within four games of league-leading Virginia in the ACC standings, there was a lot of emotion and fanfare as North Carolina hosted rival Duke on Thursday night in men’s basketball.

The No. 21 Tar Heels overcame an early 12-point deficit and got 21 points from Joel Berry II in an 82-78 win over the No. 9 Blue Devils.

UNC opened the second half on a decisive 16-2 run after trailing 49-45 at the break.
