Fleet outfielder Tatiana Muniz of Triton has signed for softball at UNC Charlotte.

Muniz transferred to Triton last year, but did not play because she had to sit out 75 days to comply with state regulations.

As a sophomore at Western Harnett in 2017, Muniz hit .403 with 13 RBIs, five doubles, one triple and one home run.

Hawks coach Mark Whitman has been familiar with Muniz for several years through travel ball, helping her convert from shortstop to center field to utilize her speed.

“She will be a team leader and an asset for us in the outfield,” Whitman said. “She is really fast. She’s a slap hitter.”

Muniz also drew recruiting interest from Duke and Syracuse.

“She liked the campus in Charlotte,” Whitman said.

The Triton coach said Muniz was leaning toward a career in the medical field.
