Dalen Thompson of Triton has announced his commitment to Campbell to play baseball.
Thompson hit .340 with 13 RBIs as a sophomore in 2019 in his second season as a starter when the Hawks went 11-10 overall and 6-4 in the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference. He was 13 for 13 on stolen base attempts.
Thompson played for Region 4 in the State Games in Charlotte since the 2018-19 school year concluded.
Thompson has played shortstop and pitched for Triton. He had a 3.82 earned run average in five appearances in 2019.
“Very happy for him,” said Hawks baseball coach Joey Miriello. “He has put in the work the last year and become one of the best shortstops in the state.”
Thompson expressed his anticipation for joining the Camels in a tweet announcing his plans. Campbell went 37-21 overall in 2019 and won the Big South Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Camels reached the finals in the Greenville regional of the NCAA Tournament.
