Buies Creek pitchers Brandon Bailey, Gabriel Valdez and Carlos Sanabria combined for a one-hitter on Wednesday night as the Astros topped visiting Salem 1-0 in 10 innings.

Sanabria (1-0) threw the final inning and got the win. In extra innings in the Carolina League, a runner starts at second base.

Chuckie Robinson was on second to start the bottom of the 10th for the Astros. A sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Arauz moved Robinson to third and he came home on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Corey Julks.

Ninth batter Chris Madera had the only hit for the Red Sox off Valdez to lead off the top of the ninth.

Bailey fanned five and walked two over five innings. Valdez had three whiffs in four frames.

Ronnie Dawson was 2-for-4 as Buies Creek collected six hits.

The Astros pulled within a half-game of the Carolina League Southern Division second-half season lead with Winston-Salem’s 5-3 loss at Carolina.

Ronnie Dawson had two hits for the Astros, including this broken-bat single.
