Three Dunn All-Star softball teams win in Pembroke

Dunn’s All-Star softball teams swept their opening-night games decisively in the Dixie district tournaments at Pembroke on Friday.

The Darlings (8-and-under) defeated Hoke County, 13-2, and the Angels (10-and-under) were 15-5 winners against Lee County.

The Dunn Ponytails (12-and-under) downed Moore County, 20-0. The Ponytails play Hope Mills on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Three pitchers combine for Ponytail shutout

Aubree Bass pitched the first two innings for the Dunn Ponytails and struck out four batters. Emily Williams pitched the third inning and struck out two batters. Emily Scott pitched the last inning and retired three batters in a row to end the game.

Dunn scored four runs in the first inning, 12 in the second inning and four in the third inning with production throughout the lineup.

Ashley Bliven hit a single and a triple. Emily Williams had a double. Carmyn Ivey had a double. Marley Colville had a single and a double. Lilly McLamb had a triple and a single. Anna Dudley had a single. Lindsey Knoll hit a sacrifice fly. Jazmin Rummel had a scarifice bunt.

“We ran the bases well,” said Dunn Ponytails coach Jeremy Bass. “Our pitchers did a good job. Emily Williams and Emily Scott pitched very well.

“We started Aubree on the mound. She gave us two quality innings and kept Moore County scoreless while our offense gave us a lead She had some surgery for an infection in her pitching arm on June 4 and was not 100 percent, but 75 percent got the job done.”
