The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (public schools) released revised dates for the 2020-21 school year on Wednesday. The first playing date for football is February 26 and there is a limit of seven regular-season games. The earliest start date is for volleyball and cross country, which may begin practice on November 4. … The Big South Conference, which includes Campbell, announced plans to move fall sports in 2020 to spring of 2021. … Football practice at East Carolina was halted in the 16th period on Wednesday afternoon due to weather issues. … Boston edged the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-3, on Patrice Bergeron’s goal in the second overtime on Wednesday in Toronto. Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour was fined $25,000 by the NHL for criticizing officiating. The second game in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup playoff series is tonight (NBC Sports Network, 8 p.m.). … Miami topped host Toronto, 14-11, in 10 innings on Wednesday night despite seven home runs by the Blue Jays, who are playing their home games in Buffalo. … The Wyndham Championship gets underway today in Greensboro (Golf Channel, 2 p.m.) … NBA games with 8-9 Western Conference playoff berths at stake today include Dallas-Phoenix (TNT, 4 p.m.), San Antonio-Utah (TNT, 6:30 p.m.) and Portland-Brooklyn (TNT, 9 p.m.).
