Erwin lost, 12-2, to Sandhills White in the opening round of the Little Tar Heel League District 3 Midget (10-and-under) baseball tournament at Memorial Park in Southern Pines on Wednesday night. Sandhills Blue defeated Western Harnett, 18-0. Erwin and Western play an elimination game on Friday at 8 p.m. … Opening ceremonies are scheduled at the Nathan Harris Athletic Complex at Tyler Park for Dixie Youth baseball tournaments in the AA (8-and-under, coach pitch) and AAA Division 2 (10-and-under, smaller leagues) on Friday evening. Dunn AA plays South Columbus on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., Lillington AAA takes on Kings Mountain on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Dunn AAA meets West Lincoln on Saturday at 4 p.m. … Matthew Barefoot (Midway, Campbell) was 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Asheville Tourists in a 5-2 loss at Greensboro on Wednesday. … Collin McHugh, Josh Fleming, Diego Castillo, Matt Wisler and Pete Fairbanks combined for a 7-inning no-hitter for Tampa Bay in a 4-0 win over Cleveland in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday. … Tampa Bay won its second straight Stanley Cup with a 1-0 victory over visiting Montreal on Wednesday night as Ross Colton had the game’s only goal in the second period. Andrei Vasilevskiy was in goal for the shutout. … Host Phoenix has a 1-0 lead in the NBA finals going into game two with Milwaukee tonight (ABC, 9 p.m.).
