Trinity takes varsity wins at CFCA

Trinity Christian of Fayetteville took a pair of Sandhills Athletic Conference varsity basketball wins at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Friday night, prevailing 63-21 in the girls game and 57-53 in the boys contest.

The Eagles secured a berth in the league’s junior varsity boys tournament with a 74-51 victory as Zeke Brock scored 22 points and Deshawn Woods had 20.

David Okropiridze added 12 points as the junior Eagles finished 5-5 for the regular season in the SAC. Barrett Raynor had six points. Jakson Cullen scored five. Wyatt Medlin tallied three. Gavin Harris and Trevor McLamb each had two points. Reid Miller and Grayson Barefoot had one points apiece.

Zykia Matthews led the CFCA girls with seven points. Kristen Bass and Laney Trainer had four points each. Adding two points each were Meredith Taylor, Meghan Taylor and Aubree Bass.

Trinity outscored the hosts 22-10 in the second quarter to lead 32-25 at the half in the varsity boys game, but the Eagles took some momentum into intermission as Silla Tako sank a 65-foot heave at the buzzer.

CFCA got threes from Greg Moneymaker, Austin Locklear (2) and Jamael Carter in surging to a lead in the third quarter, but Trinity managed to hang on down the stretch for its 19th straight win.

Locklear led the hosts with 21 points. Moneymaker and Carter had nine points each. Silla Tako had five points. Jeremyah McWilliams had four points and blocked three shots despite illness. Paul Tako had two points and nine rebounds. Parker Watson added three points in his second game back from knee surgery.

Trinity won the boys and girls regular-season varsity championships in the SAC.

Pairings for next week’s SAC tournaments were to be finalized on Saturday.
