Cape Fear Christian Academy senior Larah Tripp won the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Division 3 championship in the shot put at Wingate University on Friday.
Division 3 includes the 1-A and 2-A classifications.
Tripp, a left-handed thrower who was third in the event as a junior, had a winning heave of 27 feet, 7.5 inches on her final throw this year.
Shot put has been the best track and field event for CFCA. Perri Caroline Ennis placed third in 2023.
Tripp plays right field for the 1-A Eagles in softball.
CFCA eighth-grader Keitlyn Ammons was second in the high jump as she cleared four feet, 10 inches.
The Eagles had three qualifiers for the state meet and all three scored as eighth-grader Kelani Brock did 29 feet, nine inches for seventh place in the triple jump. She was unable to take her last attempt after turning an ankle.
CFCA totaled 20 points for ninth in the girls team standings.
