Triton got its varsity baseball season started on Tuesday night with an 8-5 nonconference win over visiting Hunt from Wilson County.
“We scratched runs just about every inning,” said Hawks coach Jake Willis. “That’s very pleasing to see from a coaching aspect.”
Anthony Jones was 2-for-3 for Triton with two RBIs. Dalen Thompson, Xander Johnson and Ross Stevens each had hits with runs driven in.
Ira Matthews and Josh Jackson also had hits for the Hawks. Payden Crews had an RBI.
“As far as our pitchers, we threw hard,” Willis said. “We threw well. Hayden (Pope) threw a heck of a ball game. Then Ethan Glover came in and threw pretty well at the end.”
Pope pitched five and two-thirds innings. He allowed two hits and walked four while striking out 10.
“Other than that, we’ve got a few hiccups we have to fix but it was a solid outing as a whole, moving forward.”
The Hawks visit South Johnston on Friday at 7 p.m.
