Triton baseball coach Joey Miriello wasn’t aware of awards for fields until Scotland County coach Chad Hill, Region 4 director, told him the Hawks diamond had been nominated for the region honor.

Hill later informed Miriello that Triton was the winner.

“We try to make an improvement every year,” said Miriello, whose most recent innovation dealt with an upgrade to the second level of the press box.

Miriello works hard to maintain the field, as do his players and assistant coaches.

Next year’s project may be additional flagpoles.

“They have flags for Triton, North Carolina and the United States at the softball field,” Miriello said. “It looks good. I may borrow on Mark Whitman’s idea.”

Whitman is Triton’s softball coach.
