Triton’s varsity boys soccer team surged to a 6-0 lead at the half and downed visiting Smithfield-Selma, 7-2, in a nonconference match on Wednesday night.
Benny Villalvazo and Francisco Martinez each had two goals in the opening half. Christian Dominguez had a goal and the Hawks (3-1) also benefitted from an own goal by the Spartans (3-2-1).
Victor Cano scored for Triton in the second half on an ssist from A.J. Harrell.
Uriel Morales Olvera played for 80 minutes in goal and had three saves.
Luis Elizalde Valente assisted three goals in the first half and Omar Hernandez had two assists in the first 40 minutes.
“I believe the boys were still smarting after the game on Monday night (4-1 loss at West Johnston) and they felt like the score line didn’t represent as well as they had played<” said Triton coach Brian Foster. “They were hungry, really shared the ball well and pressed aggressively.
“They were able to win some balls in the offensive Half of the field and convert. … All of the goals that we scored were assisted goals and that’s how we want to play.”
The Hawks host Cleveland tonight (Thursday, September 2) at 6:30 p.m.
