Triton girls move on to face HC

Kaila Cooney had 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Triton varsity girls basketball team defeated visiting Western Harnett, 54-41, in the first round of the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference tournament on Monday night.

The Lady Hawks (12-10) advance to meet Harnett Central (17-4) in the semifinals at Union Pines on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Anastasia McDonald had 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and five steals for the Triton girls. Abby Hood added 11 points on 5-for-7 field goal shooting with five rebounds.

Seniors Zoie Starling and Brittany Ireland had four points each. Mahogany McKoy had three points for the Lady Hawks. Ireland and Gracie Byrd each had five rebounds.

Western finished 3-21.
