Triton’s varsity girls soccer team got a goal in each half for a 2-0 win Friday night over visiting Midway.

Ana-Beth Brewer scored to give the Hawks the lead and Bethany Davis had a goal in the second half.

Laura Castro and Zoie Starling had assists for the Hawks (3-0).

Triton keeper Mona Sango was credited with five saves.

“I can’t say enough about my defense,” said Triton coach Brian Foster. “Daughtry Williams was able to snuff out most attacks in the middle of the field and anything that got by her was typically taken care of by Darby Shea.

“Mykayla Cameron and Zoraida Chavero held down both outside positions and were able to frustrate a talented team. Mona Sango had another excellent game in goal. … It took 34 minutes in the first half to break the scoreless tie when Laura Castro cut off a pass at midfield and dribbled into the offensive third where she cut the ball into an open Annabeth Brewer who dispatched a low shot past the Midway keeper from about 20 yards out.

“We had just rattled the post off of a corner kick a few minutes before that but this was our best offensive move of the night. The second half was more of the same with plenty of back and forth football. Finally, with about 12 minutes to go in the game Zoie Starling picked up the ball on the left side and played a low cross all the way through the box where it was met at the back post by Bethany Davis.

“Player of the Game honors went to Darby Shea who battled back from a shoulder injury suffered in our opening contest.”
