The battle between Tri-County Six 3-A Conference and Harnett County rivals Harnett Central and visiting Triton in girls tennis Wednesday came all the way down to the final match, as the Hawks edged the Trojans 5-4 on Central’s Senior Night to end the regular season.

Just like when the teams met at Triton on May 24, singles competition ended in a 3-3 tie.

For the Hawks (8-3, 7-2 TCC), senior Sydney Johnson won the No. 2 match 8-6, freshman Madelyn Parker swept the No. 3 match 8-0 and senior Caleigh Jones won the No. 6 match 8-6.

For the Trojans (9-4, 5-4), senior Brittany Mills won the No. 1 match 8-2, senior Anna Vreeling won the No. 4 match 8-1 and senior Syniah McMiller won a tiebreaker 9-7 at the end of an 8-8 tie in the No. 5 match.

Also just like the first meeting between the two teams, Triton held off Central 2-1 in doubles competition to take the overall win.

The team of Parker and sophomore Pilar Trochez won the No. 2 match 8-6 and Jones and sophomore Caylon Avery won the No. 3 match 9-7 for the Hawks.

Mills and senior Emme Ann Thompson won the No. 1 doubles match 8-4 for the Trojans.

After the match, Harnett Central honored seven seniors: Syniah McMiller, Lyanah Molyneaux, Brittany Mills, Anna Vreeling, Emme Ann Thompson, Malaya McFadyen and Morgan Jones.
