Triton struggled with its shooting in a 67-49 home loss to Overhills in the All American Conference varsity boys basketball championship on Saturday night.

The Hawks made 28 of 57 field goal attempts (49 percent) in a 69-43 win over Westover in the semifinals on Tuesday night, including seven of 17 from beyond the arc for 41 percent.

Those numbers slipped to 14 for 50 from the floor (28 percent) against the Jaguars and two for 21 from long rane (10 percent_.

“We came out flat and didn’t shoot well,” said Triton coach T.J. Morrison. “Not our best showing.”

The AAC final was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but was delayed because school was out due to winter weather.

The Hawks did not practice Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but Morrison didn’t use that as an excuse.

“It was the same for them,” said the 18th-year Triton mentor.

The Jaguars (17-9) led 17-11 after eight minutes and were on top, 35-22, at the half. The visitors took a 53-29 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Ro’mello Pegues had 16 points for the Hawks (18-9). Demarbiaz Devane scored 11 and Jamaury Taylor added 10.

Pegues had seven steals but also had seven of the team’s 20 turnovers.

C.J. Roland led Overhills with 19 points on seven of 10 field goal shooting.

Triton went 2-2 against the Jaguars this season but none of the matchups were very close. Overhills won, 82-52, on Nov. 19 in the semifinals of the Bennie Pollock Memorial Tournament. Triton won games in the AAC by margins of 75-50 on the road and 45-37 at home.

Both teams received their postseason placements on Sunday but would not meet again in the playoffs because the Jaguars are 4-A and the Hawks are 3-A.

Triton will make the trip to Eastern Alamance (16-9) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in its first-round assignment.

Morrison has watched the Eagles online.

“We need to show up, defend, rebound, execute and hope shots fall,” he said.
