Triton takes girls tennis on Senior Day, 7-2, over Central

Triton’s varsity girls tennis team ended the regular season on Wednesday with a 7-2 Senior Day win over visiting Harnett County and Tri-County Six 3-A Conference rival Harnett Central.

Senior Daughtry Williams won the No. 1 singles match 8-1 for the Hawks (10-2, 8-2 TCSC). Senior Ashley Wachtel won the No. 3 match 8-4. Junior Sydney Johnson won the No. 4 match 8-3. Junior Alexa Wise won the No. 5 match 8-0.

Senior Jordan Gilchrist won a 9-7 battle in the No. 2 match for the Trojans (6-7, 3-6). Junior Brittany Mills took an 8-3 win in the No. 6 match.

Triton swept the doubles matches. Williams and senior Mackie Brown won 8-1, Wachtel and Wise won 8-5 and Johnson and junior Caleigh Jones won a tiebreaker 9-7 at the end of an 8-8 match.

Harnett Central is at home Monday against conference and county rival Western Harnett to end the regular season.

The Tri-County Six 3-A Conference tournament will be held Oct. 9-10 in Sanford.
