Hawks adjust spring schedule as Whaley returns

Triton softball pitcher Leanna Whaley has been cleared to return from an arm strain with no restrictions. Whaley, an Appalachian State signee, has not pitched for the Hawks (7-0) since the season opener at Rosewood.

Triton’s home games with Western Harnett in baseball, girls soccer and softball for Tuesday night (March 20) were postponed.

Assistant athletic director Mark Whitman said the games would be made up Thursday at the regularly-scheduled times, if possible. Whitman expected early sunshine Thursday to enhance the field preparation process from rain Wednesday.

Saturday (March 24) would become the make-up date for the Tri-County Six 3-A Conference contests if fields are not playable on Thursday with varsity softball at 1 p.m. and varsity baseball at 2 p.m.

The Eagles hosted the Hawks in league openers on Friday night.

Western won baseball, 9-4. Triton prevailed 5-2 in girls soccer and took a 9-7 victory in eight innings in softball.

A nonconference baseball game at Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday (March 21) has been reset for April 23.

The Hawks were scheduled to host Smithfield-Selma in girls soccer on Wednesday (March 21), but that contest has been called off and the nonconference tilt likely will not be rescheduled, according to Triton coach Brian Foster.
