Despite their youth in a high school field, middle-school runners Allie Wiggins and Courtney Butts of Cape Fear Christian Academy earned All-Sandhills Athletic Conference honors in cross country at the league meet at Freedom Christian in Fayetteville on Friday.
Wiggins finished ninth overall among the girls with a time of 24 minutes, 53 seconds over the 5-kilometer course. Butts was 11th in 25:28. Chloe Bowden ran 28:43 for 17th and Cara Morris was 22nd in 38:14.
The top 11 runners made all-conference.
Gus Adams led the CFCA boys with a time of 21:51 for 14th despite some soreness in his right knee. Cole Daugherty finished in 26:10 for 28th. Dylan Johnson ran 26:24 for 29th.
The Eagles’ contingent also included Gabe Motschenbacher (29:08, 33rd), Thomas Honeycutt (29:20, 34th), Landon Alphin (29:20, 35th), River Ennis (29:33, 36th) and Ivan Liang (32:35, 40th).
Fayetteville Christian won the boys and girls championships.
