Two members of the Triton softball program, Haley Hicks and Hayden Smith, signed with Fayetteville Tech Community College in the media center on Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks are 14-3 going into a Tri-County 3-A Conference game at Lee County on Friday night.
Hicks is hitting .423 with 11 RBIs, six doubles and has scored 17 runs.
Smith is hitting .458 with 12 RBIs, five doubles and nine runs.
“I think it’s a good fit for both of them,” said Triton coach Mark Whitman. “They’ve had a great senior season thus far and this is a program where they both can step in and contribute.
“It’s not going to be your typical new program. Coach O (Miguel Justiniano) — as he likes to be called — is bringing in some good players.
“Haley wants to be a nurse and Hayden, a Physical Therapy Assistant. So they are getting the best of both worlds, playing softball at the next level and getting the education they want.
“They have been a big part of my program for four years and they will be truly missed.”
