Varsity softball provides win on three-game Thursday

Cape Fear Christian Academy hosted three varsity games on Thursday, taking a 17-0 nonconference softball win over Lee Christian.

The Eagles were topped 6-1 by Fayetteville Homeschool in a nonconference girls soccer match. Riverside Christian downed CFCA 12-1 in baseball.

In softball, eighth-grader Averi Williams and junior Jada Horne each had two hits and four RBIs as the Eagles improved to 5-4. Kristen Bass had two hits and two RBIs.

Also getting two hits each were Natalia Brocious, Harmony Horne and Anslee McLamb.

Meghan Taylor, Rhyleigh Horne, Aubree Bass and Paige Jeffries also had hits.

Claire Parker pitched four innings and yielded two hits with seven strikeouts for CFCA. Aubree Bass pitched one inning with one whiff.

The Eagles outhit Lee, 16-2.

On the soccer pitch, Ella John Dupree scored her second goal of the season for CFCA.

Reid Miller pitched five and one-third innings for the Eagles in baseball. He yielded six earned runs in his relief effort, allowing three hits with three strikeouts and eight walks.

CFCA scored in the first as Zeke Brock tripled over the center fielder and came home on a single to right center by Wesley Jackson, who went 2-for-3.

Brock and Trevor McLamb each finished 1-for-3. River Ennis walked twice.

The Eagles were rained out of baseball and softball games at Freedom on Friday.

On Monday, CFCA is scheduled to host Liberty in girls soccer at 4 p.m. The Eagles will be on the road to take on Riverside in softball and Village in baseball in 4 p.m. starts.
