Varsity softball wins at Halifax on busy Thursday

The CFCA varsity softball team topped host Halifax, 2-0, on Thursday.

The Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity softball team improved to 8-0 with a 2-0 win at Halifax on Thursday as Glenna Mclamb pitched a 1-hitter while striking out 10.

Six CFCA teams were in action.

Varsity Softball

Hailey Wangelin and Megan Harrold scored for the Eagles in the fifth. McLamb and Kristina Kennedy had RBIs.

Getting hits for the visitors were McLamb, Larah Tripp, Finley Phillips, Kennedy and Wangelin.

Karson Ricks had the lone hit for the Vikings (6-9-1). CFCA defeated Halifax, 8-1, on March 25 at the Eagles’ field.

CFCA, ranked No. 1 among NCISAA 1-A teams, is scheduled to host 2-A Wayne Christian (6-5) on Monday at 5 p.m. It will be Senior Day for McLamb, Tripp and Wangelin.

Middle School Softball

Halifax avenged a 13-9 loss to the Eagles on March 25 with a 3-1 win on Thursday.

Avery Denton’s RBI single accounted for CFCA’s run.

The Eagles rallied to top the Vikings, 13-9, in the first meeting on March 25 after Halifax had taken a 9-0 lead.

Middle School Baseball

Carter Glass and Henry Smith combined for a no-hitter as CFCA won, 15-0, at Halifax in three innings.

Three runs scored on an inside-the-park home run by Reid Jones in a 9-run second inning for the Eagles.

Talton Herring had a 2-run single in the first.

CFCA collected sux walks and stole 13 bases.

CFCA visits Crossroads on Monday for a 3:30 p.m. start.

Varsity Boys Golf

CFCA hosted Village for a match at Keith Hills. The Knights are ranked Ni. 1 among NCISAA 2-A teams and took a 292-361 victory on the Black and White nines.

The Eagles, No. 2 among 1-A teams, were led by Cade Godwin with an 80 and Ben Thompson with an 82.

Girls Soccer

Hist Crossroads topped the Eagles, 5-0, in the middle school match and 11-0 in the varsity contest.

CFCA hosts St John Paul II of Southern Pines on the middle school level on Monday at 4 p.m.

There is a middle school/varsity doubleheader with Crossroads on Tuesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
