Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team took a 27-20 lead into the fourth quarter against visiting Village Christian on Friday night in what had been a defensive battle up to that point.
The Knights found their shooting touch in the last eight minutes as they hit four 3-pointers to rally for a 44-43 Sandhills Athletic Conference win.
Post player Jeremyah McWilliams led CFCA (9-6, 1-1 SAC) with 10 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. McWilliams had 11 rebounds. Greg Moneymaker and Sila Tako had eight points each for the Eagles. Jamael Carter added six points and five assists.
Justin Thomas led the Knights (12-2, 3-0) with 13 points. Zavian McLean had 10 points and Jalen Higgins scored nine on three baskets from behind the arc in the last period.
Village was a 44-28 winner in the varsity girls game as Kristen Bass led CFCA with nine points. Laney Trainer scored five. Meredith Taylor and Aubree Bass tallied four points each.
The CFCA junior varsity boys were dealt a 63-47 defeat despite 31 points from Deshawn Woods. Zeke Brock added 11 in the setback.
CFCA hosts Fayetteville Academy in nonconference varsity games on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
